THE WOW LIST #2 – WHAT WE LOVED IN OCTOBER
Wow wasn’t October lovely! We’ve loved the shift in seasons and spending time outdoors. We’ve also made time for reading, listening and learning. Taking time out of work life for things we enjoy always helps to inspire and refresh.
Our October ‘WOW’ list includes our favourite reads, listens, techy tips and marketing recommendations for creative small business owners. We hope our discoveries this month will inspire, motivate and entertain!
Our favourite magazine
Creative Countryside – This has been the perfect read to unwind with after our outdoor exploring on the South Downs. Stories, everyday day adventures and local traditions. If you want some simplicity in your life, appreciate ancient crafts and celebrate the seasons this is the magazine for you!
Our favourite podcast
Ctrl Alt Delete ~ Emma Gannon – A gem of a podcast! Emma interviews people she admires covering themes such as creativity, work, wellbeing, the internet, social media, feminism, identity, mental health, careers and everything in between.
Our favourite book
‘The Discomfort Zone: How to Get What You Want by Living Fearlessly’ ~ Farrah Storr
Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Farrah Storr shows how you have to push through what she calls “brief moments of discomfort” in order to get where you need to be. Chapter 7 is our favourite ~ ‘Finding Inspiration In Constraint’
” True creativity requires originality, and originality often comes from a place of discomfort”
Our favourite community
JUST A CARD – This wonderful online community supports artists, makers, independent shops and small business owners. They want the WORLD to know that by supporting them the buyer gets something made and sold with love and passion – extra special!
Dörte is talking about Lewes Map Store on the Just A Card Blog here!
Our favourite app
Trello – We were so frustrated having different bits of info about our business in different places. Now we have all this in one place accessible from our phone and computer. We can check, add to and amend easily, anytime. We can share and message each other and invite collaborators to join too.
Trello is super easy to use and we would be so lost without it now!

Our favourite Pinterest Tip
You can now claim your Instagram accounts.
Why? When you save content from a creator who has not claimed their site on Pinterest, there is no creator image, no name, and no ‘Follow’ button
But now, when you claim your account, any time someone saves your content from Instagram to Pinterest, you’ll get the attribution you deserve on every single Pin – allowing you to attract followers from Pinterest to your social accounts! Plus Pinners will be able to easily follow you on Pinterest.

Our favourite creative business
Hannah HRC Illustrations – We had to include the lovely Hannah in this month’s WOW list. She created an illustration of us to use as our profile pic on our social media accounts.
We’re always telling our clients to show themselves on their website and social media. We realised we needed to follow our own advice. The problem is we hate having our photo taken, so we decided to find an illustrator to capture us in a different format and we love it!
Our favourite marketing tool
Business cards are an essential. Always handy to have on you when someone asks what you do. So you never miss an opportunity to woo a potential customer! We love MOO Cards*. Cool print products and beautiful design finishes.
