CREATIVE CHAT WITH Alice Tatham, Photographer & Content Creator
We have had some wonderful creative businesses enrol on our online course and come along to our Pinterest Workshops. We have so enjoyed connecting with them online and in person and thought it would be great to share our creative chats with you here on our blog!
We have reached out to these artists and makers to share their small business story with us. Details of their creative process, where they find inspiration and the highs and lows of running their own business. Our latest Creative Chat takes us to The Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
Our 7th Creative Chat is with photographer & content creator Alice Tatham – The Wildwood Moth.
Do you have a favourite creation, one that you’re most proud of?
I love creating seasonal photographs and moments of my everyday here in Dorset. I have just spent the last year project managing and sourcing all the materials for my garden studio which will be my new workspace. I am very proud of it as it has been a lot of hard work and very excited to be moving into to it now!
What’s in your creation toolbox?
I used to be a textile surface pattern designer which has given me a complete love for design, colour and nature. I love being outdoors in all seasons taking photographs.
What do you enjoy about running your business?
Now I have my new workspace, I am planning to start a new phase of work with a photography lifestyle journal blog of life here in Dorset and the West Country. I am also working on doing something artistic again as this is what I trained in – watch this space! ☺
“..instead of thinking I can’t do things, I do things that make me happy creatively and the response to me working in this way has been amazing!” – Alice Tatham – The Wildwood Moth
What don’t you enjoy and find difficult, what are the obstacles?
Self-doubt can be an obstacle. It’s that inner critic saying what you do isn’t good enough, or is there a point? Being creative is everything to me and it makes me so happy. So instead of thinking I can’t do things, I do things that make me happy creatively and the response to me working in this way has been amazing!
Who is your perfect / ideal customer and what do they value from you?
I think people that enjoy what I do love nature and creativeness. Creativity is a form of escapism for us all.
Can you tell us about your creative process?
I spend time making a seasonal scrapbook of ideas and inspiration for my photography. I collect inspiration from all sources- books, magazines, art exhibitions, social media and Pinterest. I then sketch out ideas in my sketchbook. I love creating mood boards, so Pinterest is an amazing tool for me.
Do you work on your own and where from?
I work from home and am just moving into my new garden studio ☺ All my studio stuff has been in storage for the last couple of years, so it is very exciting to have a proper workspace again at home with all the cats and our dog!
Where does your design inspiration come from?
My design inspiration comes from everywhere-absolutely everywhere! Things that inspire my photography, things that inspire me for renovating our home – I love design!
“I love being out in nature with dog walks on the beach, walks along the coast path and in the countryside especially at golden hour capturing the last light of the day.” – Alice Tatham – The Wildwood Moth
Do you have any work in progress you’re excited about and you like to share with us?
I am in the middle of building a website for my photography with all beautiful new branding. The website will be a lifestyle journal of seasonal living, interiors and creative projects of life here in Dorset.
What are your passions and interests?
I love being out in nature with dog walks on the beach, walks along the coast path and in the countryside especially at golden hour capturing the last light of the day. I grew up here and still love it to this day. Swimming in the sea is a complete passion too- you feel amazing afterwards! I haven’t managed it in Winter yet!
“I loved everything about the course – so many light bulb moments for how it all works – a big thank you ☺” – Alice Tatham – The Wildwood Moth
What was the biggest take away from doing our Pinterest course?
I have taken away the knowledge and understanding for how to make Pinterest work for my business and purely for the pleasure of collecting beautiful imagery from across the web to inspire me. I loved everything about the course- so many light bulb moments for how it all works – a big thank you ☺
